Born on 3rd April 1955, Hariharan grew up in a family deeply rooted in music. He is the son of renowned Carnatic vocalists, Shrimati Alamelu and the late H.A.S. Mani. While his family had strong ties to Trivandrum, his father migrated to Bombay to run a South Indian music school, which is where Hariharan grew up.
